BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE people of St. Kitts and Nevis will be given a chance to watch the new Michael Jackson movie, ‘This Is It’, along with the rest of the world tonight at Caribbean Cinemas.

Director of Business Development at Caribbean Cinema Shervin White told SKNVibes that the movie would be showed at the cinema for only two weeks, starting tonight at 7:30 and 9: 30.

The movie is about his last rehearsal for his scheduled mega concert tour before he died on June 25.

According to the ‘This Is It’ website, the movie would offer Jackson’s fans and music lovers worldwide, a rare, behind the scenes look at the performer as he developed, created and rehearsed for his sold out concerts that would have taken place this Summer in London’s 02 Area.

The movie chronicles the months from April through June, 2009 as the film is produced with the full support of the Estate of Michael Jackson and drawn from more than 100 hours of behind-the-scenes footage, featuring Jackson rehearsing a number of his songs for the show.

“Audiences will be given a privileged and private look at Jackson as he has never been seen before. In raw and candid detail, Michael Jackson’s ‘This Is It’ captures the singer, dancer, filmmaker, architect, creative genius and great artiste at work as he creates and perfects his final show,” the website stated.

Jackson’s creative partner and the director of the stage show, Kenny Ortega, is also directing and serving as a producer of the film while other producers include Randy Phillips and Paul Gongaware.

Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009), known as the ‘King of Pop’, was an American musician and one of the most commercially successful and influential entertainers of all time.

His unique contributions to music and dance, along with a highly publicised personal life, made him a prominent figure in popular culture for four decades.

Alongside his brothers, he made his debut in 1964 as lead singer and youngest member of The Jackson 5, and began a successful solo career in 1971. His 1982 album ‘Thriller’ remains the best-selling album of all time, with ‘Off the Wall’ (1979), ‘Bad’ (1987), ‘Dangerous’ (1991), and ‘HIStory’ (1995) among the best selling.

He is widely credited with having transformed the music video from a promotional tool into an art form, with videos for his songs ‘Billie Jean’, ‘Beat It’ and ‘Thriller’ making him the first African American artiste to amass a strong crossover following on MTV.

According to Wikipedia, while Jackson was preparing the ‘This Is It’ concert tour in 2009, he died at the age of 50 after he went into cardiac arrest.

It was reported that he had been administered drugs such as propofol and lorazepam, and his death was ruled a homicide by the Los Angeles County coroner.

“His death triggered an outpouring of grief from around the world with his globally live broadcast memorial service attracting an audience of up to one billion people,” Wikipedia.com stated.
