BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, February 9th, 2022 – Outstanding students from the July/August 2021 Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC®) Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination® (CAPE®) cohort will be recognised this February in the upcoming annual CXC® Top Awards Ceremony.
Samuel Haynes continued a long Queen’s College tradition by securing the annual Dennis Irvine Award, for the top overall student at the CAPE® level. The student from Guyana achieved Grade I in Applied Mathematics Units 1 and 2, Biology Units 1 and 2, Caribbean Studies, Chemistry Unit 2, Communication Studies, Entrepreneurship Unit 1, Environmental Science Units 1 and 2, Integrated Mathematics, Pure Mathematics Units 1 and 2, Spanish Unit 1 and Tourism Unit 1. He also achieved Grade II in Chemistry Unit 1.
Four of the six remaining CAPE® top awards were won by students from Trinidad and Tobago. The award for Most Outstanding Performance in Mathematics, which is sponsored by RM Education, was won by Joel Phillips of Hillview College. He achieved Grade I in all of his subjects – Applied Mathematics Units 1 and 2, Physics Units 1 and 2, Pure Mathematics Units 1 and 2, Caribbean Studies and Communication Studies.
Zoë Gonsalves of St Joseph's Convent – Port of Spain, in Trinidad and Tobago, won the award for Most Outstanding Performance in Environmental Science. She achieved Grade I in all subjects including Environmental Science Units 1 and 2, Biology Units 1 and 2, Geography Units 1 and 2, Caribbean Studies and Communication Studies.
The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) award for Most Outstanding Performance in Business Studies was copped by Nikeesha Nancoo of Lakshmi Girls' Hindu College in Trinidad and Tobago. She achieved Grade I in a variety of business subjects, inclusive of Accounting Units 1 and 2, Economics Units 1 and 2 and Management of Business Units 1 and 2. She also achieved Grade I in Caribbean Studies and Communication Studies.
Jesse Rampersad of Naparima Girls' High School in Trinidad and Tobago won the award for Most Outstanding Performance in Natural Sciences, achieving Grade I in Applied Mathematics Units 1 and 2, Biology Units 1 and 2, Chemistry Units 1 and 2, Physics Units 1 and 2, Pure Mathematics Units 1 and 2, Caribbean Studies and Communication Studies.
Jade Simmonds, of Campion College in Jamaica, secured the top award in the field of Humanities and she will receive the Hodder Education-sponsored award for Most Outstanding Performance. Jade achieved Grade I in Law Units 1 and 2, Sociology Units 1 and 2, Caribbean Studies, Communication Studies and Economics Unit 2. She also achieved Grade III in Economics Unit 1. Anatassia Hastings of St Elizabeth Technical High School in Jamaica is the winner of the inaugural CAPE® Financial Services
Studies award, sponsored by the Caribbean Association of Banks. She achieved Grade II in Financial Services Studies Unit 1 and Grade III in Financial Services Studies Unit 2. She also achieved Grade II in Accounting Unit 1, Management of Business Units 1 and 2, Grade III in Caribbean Studies and Communication Studies and Grade IV in Pure Mathematics Unit 1.
These outstanding students will receive their awards during a virtual Regional Top Awards Ceremony, hosted by The Virgin Islands (British), on Thursday, 10 February 2022. Queen’s College of Guyana will receive the awards for both CSEC® and CAPE® School of the Year 2021.
