NRP discusses issues with Electoral Commission

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - AS Local Government Elections are expected to be soon called, the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) is meeting with the Electoral Commission to address issues that they have ahead of the polls.

This was confirmed by NRP’s Leader, Dr. Janice Daniel-Hodge, who in a media statement said her party “is sending a clear and concise message that the NRP will not sit back and allow the electoral process to be meddled with and has engaged the Electoral Commission regarding ongoing irregularities in the electoral process on Nevis”.

In the lead-up to the 2017 Nevis Island Administration Elections, a number of issues were highlighted and court challenges were mounted by the NRP.

Daniel-Hodge noted that in a discussion held with the Electoral Commission of St. Kitts and Nevis on March 12, 2022, they called upon the body to act “expeditiously and investigate the operations of the Electoral Office on Nevis”.

“The erosion of confidence in the process and electoral officials denied access to photo voters’ lists, denial of access to records and forms contrary to law, the cleaning up and regularising of the lists of registered voters that are seriously compromised, use of new electoral ballot boxes, and compilation of voters’ list for elections,  among other things, are among the many issues of concern to the NRP,” she added.

No date has officially been set for the elections, but the NRP has already begun campaigning and laying out its plans for the islands should it be successful.

The party has already released its slate of candidates for the Nevis Island Administration Elections, which is constitutionally due next year.
