CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – THE Alexandra Hospital is now US$1 000 closer towards its goal of acquiring a chemistry analyzer for the institution.

The money, in the form of a cheque, was presented to the institution on Friday (Oct. 30) by the Guyanese Association of Nevis.

Association Chairman Rueben Vyphuis said that over the years members of the Guyanese community have benefited in many ways from using the services of the hospital, so the body saw it fit to make this small donation towards purchasing the machine.

Vyphuis said he hopes that this gesture would prompt other organisations to follow suit and make donations towards purchasing the equipment.

Chief of Staff of the Alexandra Hospital Dr. John Essien said he was grateful for this gesture and views it as a perfect example of what the hospital has in mind for community assistance.

Also present was Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health Joycelyn Liburd. She said she was thankful for the donation towards a rather important piece of equipment which costs US$32 000. Liburd said she sees the donation as a good start and hopes other organisations would come forward to assist the effort.

The association, established in 2005, promotes itself as a non-profit, non political, secular organisation dedicated to the cultural, moral, spiritual and educational enhancement of its members. Members meet on the last Wednesday of every month at the Red Cross Building on Chapel Street, Charlestown.
