D-Day for Government: Team Unity Leaders meeting today

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - LEADERS of the parties that make up the Team Unity Administration are expected to thrash out their grievances or may be forced to call early elections.

Two of the three Leaders - Shawn Richards of the People’s Action Movement and Mark Brantley of the Concerned Citizens Movement - have publicly criticised Prime Minister and leader of the People’s Labour Party, Dr. Timothy Harris, over not keeping promises made in the Charlestow Accord.

Among the issues being aired on a daily basis, are a fair share of the proceeds from the Citizenship By Investment, affordable housing being constructed around the Federation, and discussions of Dr. Harris running for a third term.

Now, after several delays, they are expected to meet today (Apr. 6) and Premier Brantley in a social media post said: “Today we meet to either resolve or dissolve. I am reminded that God is our refuge and our strength, a very present help in trouble.”

At a Townhall Meeting on Monday (Apr. 4), Deputy Prime Minister Richards lashed out at the Prime Minister in his address, raising the concern about his approach to the leadership, including the Cabinet.

“If you [are] absent from a meeting, what happens? Your Vice takes over. Not so in Cabinet you know, not so, not so! If Cabinet is supposed to meet every Monday, if the Prime Minister goes away for three weeks you can plan to do something else with your Monday because no Cabinet supposed to happen in his absence,” noted Richards.

Richards has been publicly criticised for his supposed silence on a number of matters, including those that were aired during the Party’s National Convention last month. But he noted that all of it has to do with the tri-party coalition seeking to work through their differences internally.

“We have promised to work in unity on behalf of the people and that is exactly what we have been  trying do,” he added while pointing out that the matters have been ongoing for quite some time.

Richards also revealed that when requests were made for information on the state of finances within the Federation, a number of promises were made and the information was still not forthcoming.
