KINGSTON, Jamaica - JAMAICA will be buzzing with activities as of today (Apr. 16), as all the territory and their athletes for the 2022 CARIFTA Games have arrived in the land of speed to compete for glory in the premier Junior meet.
Most of the teams arrived on Thursday (Apr. 14) to fanfare and high expectations, as they looked forward to resuming competition at the highest level.
For many, this is their first major event at the regional or international level since the onset of the pandemic.
In the case of the 21-member continue from St. Kitts and Nevis seeking glory, seven athletes are in action this morning.
Cadence Stanley will open things for the Federation’s Flag when she sprints in from lane two in the 100m Hurdles of the Girls Under-20 Heptathlon at 10:00 a.m. She will then hit the field in the High Jump at 11:25 a.m.
At 10:55 a.m., Akadiento Willet will open his campaign in the field in the Boys Under-20 Javelin competition and he will then switch to the track in the Boys Under-20 400m from lane six.
Also in action are Shamari Newton-Roberts who will be competing in the Boys Under-20 100m preliminary. He will be in lane six in Heat One, while Aldrett Nisbett will be in lane six of Heath Four.
Randell Willians and Daron Thomas will be competing in the Under-17 400m preliminaries. Williams will be competing in Heat One running out of lane six, while Thomas will be competing in Heat Three.
This is the first edition of the CARIFTA Games and also for team St. Kitts and Nevis since the start of the pandemic, and many of the locally-based athletes are welcoming the high level competition.
Events get underway from 10:00 a.m. St. Kitts and Nevis time.
