SKNLP claims irregularities exist at Electoral Office

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - AS the nation awaits the imminent polling day, the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party has made strong statements and claims against the Electoral Office as registration continues with long lines seen outside the head office in Basseterre.

The party believes that a number of  “infractions at the Electoral Office continue to increase that are in many ways reminiscent of the irregularities and illegalities that took place leading up to and during the General Elections of June 5, 2020”.

Since the heavy defeat at the last elections, the party has claimed that a number of irregularities have occurred, and they had filed several election petitions, but they were eventually thrown out on the grounds of technicalities.

In a media statement, the party said it is “disturbed and alarmed at the irregularities taking place in and around the vicinity of the Electoral Office”.

The party also raised concerns about issues presented to the Supervisor of Elections that it suggested are not being addressed.

“Recently, the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party met with the Supervisor of Elections to raise our concerns, but to date, there has been no attempt in evidence to address the many concerns we have raised…”

Continuing with his usual visit to the Electoral Office, Dr. Terrance Drew called for the perseverance of the integrity of the Electoral Office to ensure that the general public continue to have confidence in the system.

“I am saying to the Supervisor of Elections to make sure that things are in order!” Drew urged.

The SKNLP Leader’s comments came as the Federation awaits a date for the holding of elections.

Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris had dissolved the Parliament and fired six of his elected Cabinet members.

Dr. Harris had indicated at a recent national address that he would shortly announce a date for the elections. In the meantime however, the contesting parties are gearing themselves for the polls by announcing candidates and holding public meetings.
