Amory Knighted by Italy

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

Bilateral relations stronger between Italy and SKN.

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Republic of Italy has officially Knighted Ernest Amory for his long service and contribution to the bilateral relations between the European nation and St. Kitts and Nevis.

Italy’s Ambassador to St. Kitts and Nevis and the wider Caribbean, Fabrizio Nicoletti presented the medal and a plaque to the businessman and philanthropist at a cocktail reception for the Ambassador, who is on a 10-nation tour of the region.

The Knighting came as a surprise to Amory, who has been the Honourary Consul for Italy in St. Kitts and Nevis over the last 20 years. During that time, he represented a number of individuals who might have found themselves needing assistance.

His Excellency Nicoletti made St. Kitts and Nevis his first stop to, among other things, present the formal awards, which include the Order of the Star of Italy, to Amory.

He said that the awards were presented on behalf of the Italian President, Sergio Mattarella, who gave his blessings to the Honourary Consul.

This comes as the two nations have become close through their relationship and the same challenges, including that of Climate Change.

Through those relations, the Italians have deemed the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis an excellent ally.

“We are two countries which are very concerned about Climate Change; about how it is affecting the beautiful beaches, the beautiful shores, our planet. We are far but we are on the same planet…We are committed and I have that we all together can do a lot,” the Ambassador noted.

Amory noted that it has been a privilege for him to serve the country and the people of Italy over the years. He reminded that the position is not a paid one, and his role is to continue to ensure that the relationship grows strong, as both St. Kitts and Nevis have lent various sports to each other over the years, with the Federation providing solid support for the appointment of officials at the United Nations and other international agencies.

“We do it as an honour to serve, and I have been doing it all my life. I serve in my business, with my customers, and therefore as an Honourary Consul. It is a pleasure,” Amory stated.

The event was attended by a number of Honourary Consuls to the Federation, government officials and opposition Parliamentarians.
