Dr Denzil Douglas, SKNLP St Christopher Six (6) Parliamentary Representative sets record straight

By: Erasmus Williams, Press Release

BASSETERRE, St Kitts, July 12, 2022 - Sitting Parliamentary Representative for St Christopher 6 (Harris' to Newton Ground), Rt Hon Dr. Denzil L. Douglas is asking the question where does Dr. Marc Williams, his PLP opponent in the upcoming Federal Elections lives.

Dr Douglas, responding to a recent statement by Williams said several projects have been undertaken by him as Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis in several areas of the constituency including Dieppe Bay where Williams was born and lives.

"Imagine they said Dougie ain't do nothing for number six. In 1995, I met Dieppe Bay a one-sided piece of village. I brought balance. I brought houses, not only on the seaside but on the mountain side as well," said Douglas at a political meeting in Old Road, where he endorsed Samal Duggins, his fellow St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party candidate.

Douglas said the false statements by Williams at a PLP meeting in Dieppe Bay recently leaves many to ask if "Marc Williams was born and still lives in Dieppe Bay or somewhere else."Dr Douglas recalled when the sugar industry was closed his SKNLP administration made sure that the Capisterre would be included in the development of St Kitts and Nevis and not just the South-East Peninsula.

He pointed out that the White Gate Development Corporation was created and Marc Williams' father, Thomas Williams, was appointed Chairman of the corporation which controlled three square miles of land in the north-western tip of St Kitts.

"We said the focal point for development of St Kitts and Nevis in that part of the country will be in Capisterre of which Dieppe Bay is the center. More than that, it seems as though Marc does not have any memory, because it was his father, Thomas Williams, who was put in charge of the White Gate Development Corporation. For 27 years his own father was in charge of that corporation," said Dr. Douglas.

Emphasising that the team leading the White Gate Corporation was Thomas Williams, father of Marc Williams, Dr Douglas pointed out that the corporation with support from his St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party brought Kittitian Hill, the Ramada Hotel and the Beaumont Park Horse Race Track to the area.

"He (Marc) said his father did nothing when the development of the area took place while his father headed the White Gate Corporation," Dr. Douglas stressed.

The former prime minister said roads along with the necessary infrastructures were also developed to enhance the living conditions of the residents stretching from Harris' to Newton Ground.

Dr Douglas also referred to the construction of a new Dieppe Bay Post Office, Police Station, Fire Station and Magistrate's Court and sporting facilities, health centres, community centres and new primary and secondary schools in St Christopher 6.

Dr Douglas who over the years, has urged parents to ensure their children not only in his constituency but nationwide attend the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC), the UWI Campus in St Kitts and Nevis and take up scholarships offered by his SKNLP administration and friendly governments such as the Republic of Cuba and the Republic of China (Taiwan) said scores of households can now boast of at least one and in some cases two, three and even all children with college or university degrees at all levels in medicine, accounting, nursing, engineering, pharmacology, phycology and economics.

"Almost every household in number six can boast of a degreed person. The most doctors per capita in the whole country come from St Christopher 6," Dr. Douglas boasted.

Dr. Douglas lashed out at his PLP opponent for being the Director of Marine Resources and has allowed the Fisheries Complex in Dieppe Bay, where he lives to be roofless for the past seven years.

St Christopher 6 also boasts the St. Kitts Eco-Park, the Saddle Hill Adventure Park, the St. Paul‘s Day Care Centre and Pre-School - which is the largest in the whole country; the Robert L. Bradshaw Memorial Park and Community, Day Care Centers in Newton Ground, St. Paul’s and Saddlers and the Rainbow Rehabilitation Center in Harris'.

Homes have also been constructed in Newton Ground, St. Paul’s, Dieppe Bay, Parsons and Saddlers.
