By: St. Kitts-Nevis Tourism Authority, Press Release

BASSETERRE (06th November, 2009): The St. Kitts Tourism Authority announced today that the full implementation of the numbering system for dispatching at Port Zante will not take place tomorrow, Saturday, as previously announced.

All taxi operators are to take note that the new dispatching system has been deferred until the end of November.

Designed to raise the quality of the cruise visitor experience at Port Zante, the new system, when in operation, will use a numbering procedure to dispatch visitors to certified taxi operators.

Only taxi operators issued with special decals by the St. Kitts Tourism Authority, would have been allowed to queue in the taxi parking lot at Port Zanté.

More than three hundred taxi operators have so far been trained and certified by the St. Kitts Tourism Authority over the past few weeks.

However, the processing of these certified taxi operators, which includes the distribution of vehicle decals, has not yet been completed.

The Tourism Authority has therefore decided to postpone the implementation of the requirement for a decal in order to give additional time to allow taxi operators to collect their decals.

All taxi operators who have not completed the recertification program are encouraged to do so before the end of November, 2009.
