By: The St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association, Press Release

At 10:00 a.m. Wednesday 11 November 2009, eleven young people will take to the National Assembly Chambers for a Mock Parliament Sitting to discuss issues surrounding the National Assembly Elections Act, the premiere piece of legislation that governs our nation’s elections of political representatives. The sitting is one of many activities scheduled for Youth Month and is organised by the Department of Youth in collaboration with the St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association.

Up for debate are issues such as dual citizenship, increasing penalties for certain election offences, the possibility of introducing a set election date and a proposal to change the age that a person can be nominated to run for general elections from twenty-one to eighteen. A Code of Conduct for Politicians will also be discussed.

The general public is invited to come to the National Assembly Chambers to hear to the young debaters or to listen via the local radio stations Kiss FM, Winn FM, Sugar City Rock and ZIZ. The debate will also be airing live on ZIZ TV.
