BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has signalled its intention to deepen closer relations with the Federal Government and provide assistance in a number of areas.

Newly-elected Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew held discussions with Venezuela’s President Nicholas Maduro, who assured the Federation of his willingness “to continue providing its solidarity cooperation through the Petrocaribe Energy Supply Agreement, as well as the implementation of agri-food projects, regional air interconnection, among other airlines, with financing from the Banco del Alba”.

Venezuela has a longstanding relationship with the people of St. Kitts and Nevis, as it has provided numerous assistance over the last several years, including EC$16 million for the Sugar Workers, funding to construct a suite of houses on Wellington Road, and funding for small businesses.

He also told the people of St. Kitts and Nevis that the helping hand of the country would always “be extended for our brothers in the Caribbean, this being an indispensable part of the historical legacy left to us by our Commander Hugo Chávez”.

“Finally, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reiterated his willingness to work constructively with the new Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis, in order to develop a comprehensive bilateral relationship, characterized by cooperation and brotherhood, through mechanisms such as the Petrocaribe Agreement and ALBA-TCP, in order to continue promoting and consolidating regional integration and the well-being of the Latin American,” a statement from Venezuela read.
