Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 09, 2009 (SKNIS): Consumers in Newtown will soon benefit from an improved supply of water, as the Water System Improvement Project begins work at Pond’s Housing Site.

The project commences today (November 9) and features the relocation of pipes and laying of larger diameter pipes. This will add to the refurbishment of the existing pipe network and provide easier access to services connection.

The initial work is concentrated at James Street and Neverson Street.

Officials at the Water Services Department told SKNIS that the project may result in a temporary interruption of water supply during 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and traffic and parking restrictions will be in place for the safety of the public and the workers.

Apologies were extended for these inconveniences as well as the exposure to dust, and noise associated with such projects. Assurances were given that efforts will be made to keep all temporary inconveniences to a minimum.

The work is estimated to be complete by December 11, 2009.
