CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (January 2, 2006) -- An official of the Nevis Tourism Authority says the cruise season for Nevis has been good so far and the outlook for the remainder of the season is very promising.
Ms Charmin Jeffers Statistics and Cruise Officer made the disclosure on Thursday during the inaugural visit of the MV Silver Whisper which docked in the Charlestown Harbour with 382 visitors. This visit came on the heels of a visit of the MV Zuiderdam with 1748 passengers and the MV Windsurf with 308 passengers. Both vessels docked at the Charlestown Harbour on January 24, 2006.
She said so far the cruise ship season, which began last November, has seen in excess of 22 vessels making calls at the Nevis Port and the Authority expected an additional 37 calls by the end of the season in May.
However, while on board the Silver Whisper. Ms Jeffers welcomed Captain I. Tatulli and his vessel to Nevis and expressed satisfaction on behalf of the Authority and the people of Nevis the decision by Silversea to place Nevis on its itinerary.
Mr Elroy Hendrickson head of security at the Nevis Air and Sea Ports Authority who was also present took the opportunity to welcome the Silver Whisper and assured the Captain that the Authority had strived to ensure that the passengers were safe and secure once the got ashore adding that they had continued to adhere to the ISPS Code requirements.

Captain Tatulli thanked the Nevis officials and explained that the cruise had originated from Fort Everglades on February 27 and had been to other sea ports including St. Barts. He said the ship would dock in The Saints on Friday then at Roseau, Dominica and end I St. Johns, Antigua.
While on Nevis the passengers engaged in three main tours. One offered an opportunity for them to see the island, another group went boating on a catamaran which offered them the opportunity to experiencing the island's marine life and the third offered the guest an opportunity to play golf at the Four Seasons Resort. Other passengers had the opportunity to explore the island on their own.
The Captain said the Silver Whisper was the largest in a fleet of four vessels owned by Silver Sea, an Italian company which was launched in 2001. The Silver Shadow was launched in 2000 and like Silver Whisper could accommodate up to 400 passengers. The two smaller vessels the Silver World was launched in 1995 and the Silver Cloud was launched in 1994 can accommodate up to 300 guests each.
