BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – JOY SWEENEY-MOORE said that at a very young age hair has always been a passion for her. The 30-year-old, who said that she enjoys being creative and making people feel and look good, is presently in St. Kitts tying up final preparations for her upcoming event.

“I first got my start at Patsy Allers’ Salon, and it’s from since I was at a young age I had a passion for hair,” she said.

Moore will be promoting an event dubbed Joy’s Hair Creation Fashion Show on Sunday (Nov. 15) from 4:00 p.m. at the Royal St. Kitts Hotel, showcasing the latest hairstyles of the North American culture. Moore told SKNVibes that she is excited about the event and would be showing a demonstration of a lace front wig style on the day of the show.

There will be hairstyles of mohawks, weaves, relaxed styles, finger caps and fingers waves modelled by locals from S Model Management, Movado and Plus Size. The show will be hosted by the Caribbean’s Queen of Comedy, Rachel Price, and will also feature men’s hair styles by local barber Quincy.

According to one of the organisers, Kaye Crossman, persons attending the upscale event could enjoy the latest styles while experiencing the new flavours of wine, courtesy of Driftwood.

In 1999, Moore migrated to Puerto Rico and thence to New York in 2003, where she worked at some notable salons including Precious Lady, Hair Express and Eternal Beauty. She also received professional training from tutors of the prestigious Libs Beauty School in Manhattan.

Crossman told SKNVibes in a previous interview that Moore wants to show the people of St. Kitts and Nevis how she has excelled through hard work, while letting them know that beauty is an essential part of growth for a person, whether it is inside or out.

There will also be performances by H2O Dance Group at the show and tickets cost EC$40. They can be obtained at Tyrilda’s Beauty Salon, Step In, and by contacting 662-3074.
