BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - WORKERS at the St. Kirrs Electricty Company (SKELEC) reportedly down tools and took to the streets to make their demands know, catching many off guard.

Though the protest did not cause any power outages, it saw a number of workers protesting in Needsmust outside of its power plant. Many of them could be seen on the streets.

A list of demands were reportedly circulated on Social Media where it appeared that the workers are disgruntled about a number of issues relating to payment and upper level management of the company.

According to a document making the rounds on Social Media, the workers made a list of demands that they need to be addressed before they could move forward.

Included in the purported list of demands were: payment of risk pay; payment of honorarium; an increase in salary is recommended, according to studies, and consistent with cost-of-living increases; retroactive payments which were previously promised; and  re-assignment of SKLEC Senior Management.

Minister of Public Works, Konris Maynard met with the protesters and reportedly asked them to go through the necessary challenls to outline their grievances, while assuring that he would have another meet around 4:00 p.m. today (Nov. 1).

The matter is said to have garnered the attention of the upper level management of the company as they seek to have the issues addressed internally.
