St. George’s Secondary School wins Anegada Lobster Festival Art Competition

    Jr. Minister Awards Prizes to the top 3 of 33 entries 

     

    Road Town, Tortola, British Virgin Islands, 28th October 2022  ?  The Junior Minister for Tourism and District 6 Representative, Mrs. Alvera Maduro-Caines proudly announced the winners of the Anegada Lobster Fest Art Competition, today. The competition sponsored by the Junior Minister invited students aged 7-12 across the Territory, to help the British Virgin Islands Tourist Board & Film Commission (BVITB) market the 10th Anegada Lobster Festival by drawing a poster capturing the theme, “Anegada Lobster Festival: from Sea to Shore Expl-our”.  Mary Angelexa Torio of St. George’s Secondary School is the competition’s winner, Jazara Browne, a Lower Elementary student at Century House Montessori School earned second prize, and Ciara Evans a fifth grader at the Claudia Creque Educational Centre captured third place.

     

    Mary receives $150 cash, a free lobster meal from Sid’s Pomato Point Restaurant, a complete Anegada Lobster Festival swag bag, a BVI Monopoly game set a social media feature on the BVITB’s social media pages, and her artwork in the 2022 Anegada Lobster Festival “Flapbook”.  The second and third prize entrants receive cash prizes of $100 and $50 respectively.

     

    Commenting on the competition Honourable Maduro-Caines said, “I was pleased with the tremendous response from our students.  I am a strong proponent of the youth and thought I should challenge them by involving them in the marketing of one of our major tourism events.  I am impressed with their effort and see why it was difficult to select the winners.” 

     

    The winning entry will be on the cover of the 10th Anegada Lobster Festival Flapbook.
