    Basseterre, St. Kitts (February 07, 2006):
    Minister of State with responsibility for Sport Hon. Richard Skerritt welcomed five special visitors to his office on Tuesday and reaffirmed the government's support for the Special Olympics programme.
    Special Ed teacher Allison Percival and four students paid a courtesy call on the minister as part of the activities marking the week-long celebration of the Special Olympic movement in St. Kitts and Nevis. The week of activities began on Saturday with a march in Nevis.
     
    The student athletes were thrilled to meet the minister and used the opportunity to update him on the success of previous events and to share personal experiences.
     
    Minister Skerritt encouraged the students to remain committed to their academic and athletic pursuits. He also presented each person with a gift bag and invited them to return. The minister thanked Ms. Percival for her dedication to her students.

    "Teacher, on behalf of these four gentlemen here and on behalf of the ministry I want to thank you for taking such good care of these kids and for helping with the Special Olympics programme. Please remember that we are your friends here," he said.
     
    The Special Olympic week of activities runs from Feb 04 to 11. It is being observed under the theme "Special Olympics " More Than Sports."
     
    Activities continue on Wednesday with Tag Day. On this day, the general public will be able to purchase tags to show their support for the movement. Persons are invited to tune in to ZIZ on Thursday when special athletes will be discussing ongoing activities.
