By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -- FOLLOWING the successful staging of the World Creole Music Festival, Prime Minister of Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit has called snap elections, set for December 6th.

In a national address this evening (Nov. 6), Skerrit announced that  Nominations Day would be on Friday,  November 18th, while the General Elections  will take place just over three weeks later.

He also announced that the Cabinet has been dissolved with immediate effect as its members have begun the process of preparing for the elections.

“I have asked that a fresh writ be issued on Monday 7th November, 2022 for the holding of General Elections in the Commonwealth of Dominica," Skerrit said..

As he and his Dominica Labour Party (DLP) prepare for the General Elections, the incumbent party will be fielding a new slate of candidates.

“The Dominica Labour Party would reveal its new-look slate of candidates in Roseau on Tuesday 8th, November,” noted the Prime Minister in a 13-page national address.

The Elections are being held at a time when the island is feeling the crunch from the rising inflation, supply chain challenges and the rising cost of fuel on the world market.

“Yes, fuel prices in Dominica are high….but in which non-oil producing country aren’t they high? Yes, food prices in Dominica have risen, but where in the world have they not been rising?,” he added.
