Grant: PAM committed to saving jobs when elected

Lindsay Grant
PAM Secretariat

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, November 14th 2009 (PAM Secretariat) - Political Leader of the People’s Action Movement Lindsay Grant has declared his party’s commitment to ensuring that the St. Kitts and Nevis economy rebounds from its spate of low productivity and severe financial challenges.

Referring to recent allegations levelled against his party by the Government that should PAM win a number of Government workers would lose their jobs, Grant said: “PM Douglas and some others are portraying any attempt by PAM to indicate to the working force in this Federation that jobs would be lost under a PAM government, when the truth is that he, the Prime Minister, intends to reduce jobs across this Federation. We also have to understand that, like the sugar industry, he is lying again to the people.”

Grant said that St. Kitts and Nevis has found itself in an unfortunate situation and noted the importance of the public in ensuring that when elections are called a new government is elected.

He reminded that when he had made certain disclosures regarding the sugar industry, the PM had sought to distort the facts, which caused the public to believe that he had not meant well. However, it was a mere few months after the elections that the PM negated his earlier promises. This, Grant said, is testimony to the way in which the PM operates and conducts affairs of the Federation.

The PAM Leader expressed confidence that normalcy would reign in the sector, noting that the challenges and difficulties the Federation faces are as a result of the Government’s failure to be creative, innovative and also properly managed.

He expressed similar sentiments made by his Deputy Eugene Hamilton, who stated that with the implementation of a turn around plan from the PAM, if aggressively pursued would encourage fortunes, making the sector profitable.

Grant declared that workers are a critical part of future success, stressing that under his administration he intends to protect and safeguard jobs; something he accuses the Labour Party of trying to stop.
