The Grand Parade is Back

    St. Kitts & Nevis National Carnival Committee, Monday 2 January 2023 -- All Street Activities Results will be Announced LIVE on ZIZ (all platforms) at 1pm on Tuesday 3 January 2023. No Parade in 2021, No parade in 2022! Words cannot express how happy we are that the Grand Parade IS BACK and with increased participation too. Folks, it will be a spectacle to behold! The magic begins at 11AM and ends at 7PM.

    Colour, music, revelry, creativity! That's what our Grand Carnival Parade is all about and this year's is not to be missed!

     

    START OF PARADE
    The Grand Parade will start at 11AM on Monday January 2, 2023, from Patsy Allers Playing Field.

     

    ROUTE FOR CARNIVAL GRAND PARADE
    From Patsy Allers Playing Field, on to Cayon Street, onto Pond Road, Presentation on performance stage on Agro Strip, Pond Road (outside Newtown Play Field). Continue along Pond Road, right onto Morris Paul Drive, right onto the Bay Road, right up Fort Street and ending on Fort Street. The troupe will disperse, turning left or right on Cayon Street depending on the location of the Troupe’s Mas Camp. Music must end at the top of Church Street, or West Independence Square Street, then the band will head to their Mas camp.

     

    This route will be used after the Judging Component is completed.

     

    JUDGING POINTS FOR GRAND CARNIVAL PARADE

     

    1. Pasty Allers’ Playfield (Wigley Ave)

     

    2. Greenland’s Park (Judging between Fiennes Avenue & West Bourne Ghaut)

     

    3. Pond Road performance area, (Outside Newtown Playfield)

    Section of the Year – $5,000

     

    Spirit of Carnival - $3,000

     

    King of the Bands – $2,500

    JUDGING CRITERIA FOR MAS BANDS AT PATSY ALLERS

     

    Presentation - 20 points

     

    Interpretation of Theme - 30 points

     

    Design - 30 points

     

    Craftsmanship -20 points (only included at 1st Judging Point at Patsy Allers)

     

    TOTAL - 100 points

    JUDGING CRITERIA FOR QUEEN OF THE BANDS AT GREENLANDS AND STAGE

    JUDGING CRITERIA FOR KING OF THE BANDS AT GREENLANDS AND STAGE

    At the 1st judging point, the above criteria will be applied in its entirety.

     

    For the other judging points, ‘Craftsmanship’ will be omitted.

     

    Thus, the total for Patsy Allers will be 100 points while at the other judging points, it will be 80 points.

     

    AWARD FOR FIRST TROUPE TO LAUNCH
    Must be a public (either virtually or in person) Reveal showcasing theme, and designs of costumes for all sections.

     

    PENALTIES
    A total of 10 points will be deducted for troupes without 80% of revelers present at the Start of The Parade at 11:00am when troupes are ready to move off. A member of the Street Activities Committee will be assigned the task of counting the number of revelers in the presence of at least one representative of the troupe.

     

    DEFINITIONS

     

    PRESENTATION: The extent to which a portrayal is brought to life at the judging points (20 points)

     

    • Effective stage presentation by the competitor

     

    • Appropriate movement on stage

     

    • Communication with audience

     

    INTERPRETATION OF THEME: The extent to which a portrayal represents the theme stated (30 points)

     

    • Use and inclusion of specific thematic elements

     

    • Use of colour to depict theme

     

    • Effective combination of visual elements

     

    DESIGN: The overall effect derived from the arrangement of components in the portrayal (30 points)

     

    • Innovation of concept and construction

     

    • Inventiveness of structure, material usage, and colour

     

    • Effective arrangement of principal and subsidiary components

     

    CRAFTSMANSHIP: The level of skill reflected in the creation and production of the portrayal (20 Points)

     

    • Effective use of traditional and non-traditional materials

     

    • Quality of finish, neatness, workmanship

     

    • Portability, fit, and ease of movement

     

    Craftsmanship is judged at the beginning of the parade. Each Band must provide a male and a female for each section to be judged.

     

    SPECIAL PRIZES

     

    SECTION OF THE YEAR (marked out of 15 points)

     

    • Each Band shall advise which of its sections it wishes to be judged for this award by Wednesday 21st December 2022.

     

    • The Section shall be judged using the following criteria; Interpretation of Theme, Presentation and Design.

     

    • The Section gaining the highest aggregate score in the Section of the Year competition on Carnival Monday will be awarded the Section of the Year Award.

     

    SPIRIT OF CARNIVAL (marked out of 20 points)

     

    The following criteria shall be used to determine the award for Spirit of Carnival:

     

    • Exuberance of revellers when crossing the judging areas

     

    • The Band with the highest score shall be awarded the Spirit of Carnival Award

     

    Stage Presentation
    A maximum of 10 minutes is allowed for any band of less than 300 persons. A maximum of 15 minutes is allowed for any band of 300 persons or more. An additional five (5) minutes per costume shall be allowed to any band presentingIndividual, King or Queen costumes as part of its band portrayal. No more than 20 minutes shall be added for this purpose to the standard allotted time
