Present Fuel Farm at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport operated by Sol.
    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, FEBRUARY 9TH 2006 -
The new Fuel Farm at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport is to be completed and operational by March 1st this year.
Chairman of the St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA), Mr. Linkon Maynard said tenders to operate the new fuel farm at the airport have been received and the successful bidder will be announced shortly.

"They (Surrey Paving & Aggregate Caribbean Ltd) are working to get this area prepared so that who ever the successful bidder is, who is going to operate the fuel farm, can take it over by March 1st, and to have it ready so that when the old fuel farm is to be dismantled and decommissioned construction of the new taxi way can begin," said Maynard during a tour of the multi-million dollar airport expansion project by St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister and Minister of  Finance and Tourism, the Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas late Tuesday afternoon.

Prime Minister Douglas said the new fuel farm will be a joint operation between the new contractor and the St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority.

"We are going to invite tendering for a private entity to construct the new fuel farm. We will as a Government receive some commission for every gallon of fuel sold at the airport," said Dr. Douglas, who pointed out that under the present arrangement which has been in existence for decades, "government receives nothing."

"The real estate at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport is very expensive, yet we as a Government has received nothing over the years. We are now going to be bringing some revenue into the Port Authority by ensuring that there is a commission to be negotiated for every gallon of aviation fuel that is sold and paid to the Port Authority," said Dr. Douglas, who added that at the end of a contractual period which is still to be negotiated, the complete operations of the fuel farm will be done privately.

Sol St. Kitts and Nevis operates the present fuel farm. Sol's Country Manager, Mr. Vern Cenac told the Communications Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister that the present storage capacity at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport is 34,000 imperial gallons.
