BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE man, whose lifeless body was found within a vehicle in the Bird Rock area early yesterday (Jan. 27) morning, was identified as 29-year-old Dequan Maloney.
According to a police report, Maloney was originally from Upper Shaw Avenue, Mc Knight but was residing in the Morne Heights area in Bird Rock at the time of his demise.
Police stated that preliminary investigations revealed that sometime between 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on Thursday (Jan. 26), multiple explosive sounds were heard in the Morne Heights area but nothing was reported to the law enforcement agency.
On the following morning, however, a report was made to the police of a body being found in that area.
A number of officers had responded and, upon arrival, they found Maloney’s lifeless body inside the trunk of a motorcar with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
The officers also observed that Maloney’s Morne Heights apartment appeared to have been entered by force and was ransacked.
The District Medical Officer was summoned to the scene and pronounced him dead.
Personnel from the Forensic Department had processed the scene and collected items of evidential value.
As investigations are ongoing, the police are urging persons, who might have information regarding this incident, to contact the Violent Crimes Unit by dialling 467-1887, 467-1888, 662-3468, their nearest police station or the Crime Hotline at 707 where such information could be given anonymously.
Maloney's death has taken to two, the number of himicides committed in the Federation for this year.
The first was that of 26-year-old Javon Grant of Maddens Estate, Nevis, who was shot multiple time in the vicinity of a bar in Bath Village on Wednesday (Jan. 11).
