ROSEAU, Dominica – January 27, 2023 -- With just under four weeks to Dominica’s carnival celebrations, the excitement for ‘Mas an Lawi’ continues to rise. Three years have passed since the Caribbean’s most ‘original’ carnival last hit the streets of Dominica, so carnival lovers are  ecstatic following the carnival’s official opening on January 14th.

This weekend, three Miss Dominica contestants will be launched in their respective communities. On Friday, Moesha Thomas, sponsored by the Dominica National Lottery, will be launched in her community of Petite Soufriere; while Tarnia Eugene, sponsored by Republic Bank, will be launched in the cultural village of Grand Bay on Saturday. Sandrin Elizee will be launched on Sunday in her hometown of Kings Hill and is sponsored by the National Bank of Dominica. The two other Miss Dominica contestants are Meeya Francis of Canefield and Adicia Burton of the Kalinago Territory. All are invited to support these ladies as they prepare for their big night on Thursday, February 16th at Carnival City from 8PM.

Sunrise, the premiere carnival event by Dominica Festivals Committee, will feature regional and local performances with Dominica’s very own ‘Bouyon Boss’ and Goodwill Ambassador, Asa Bantan, as the headline act. The night of revelry and fun will begin at 11PM on Friday, February 17th at Carnival City with the theme colors of yellow and orange. Although early bird tickets for the event have quickly sold out, advanced tickets are still available online.
