Man escapes gunshot injuries in Molineux

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A 20-year-old male had the scare of his life last night (Nov. 17) when gunmen fired multiple shots at him in Molineux Village.

According to Police Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Vaughan Henderson, officers responded to reports of a shooting incident in the vicinity of Mary Charles Hospital and investigations revealed that two masked men had fired multiple shots at a young man who was visiting his girlfriend in Molineux.

The incident, Henderson said, occurred at about 8:30 p.m. and the young man, whom he claimed is from Nevis, escaped unscathed.

This media house however learnt that the young man resides in Basseterre but works in Nevis.

According to a Molineux resident, “Last night, sometime before 9:00, while I was in my home watching a TV programme I heard about two gunshots. At first I thought it was the sound of those bombs we normally hear during the celebration of Guy Fawkes Night, but shortly after I heard four more shots. I ran to the window, and when I looked outside I saw a man running down the Hospital Road away from Mary Charles Hospital.”

The resident told this media house that the young man had earlier left KFC and was on a visit to his girlfriend. “I was told that while on his way to his girlfriend, two masked men with ‘hoodies’ approached him and one of them took out a gun and started shooting at him. He however started to run and that have been the reason he is alive today.”

Over the past weeks, the nation experienced a relative calm in gun-related violence and, according to one police officer, this has been as a result of the Force’s intensified stop and search operations.

Speaking with the Assistant Commissioner with responsibility for Operations, Joseph Richardson, he told SKNVibes that “we are continuing with our operations which started since September and we are hoping to continue to suppress all those who intend to violate the laws of our Federation”.

Richardson reiterated the call for persons to resolve their differences in a humane and amicable manner, rather than with the use of firearms or other violent means.

He also said that investigations are ongoing in last night’s shooting incident.
