BVI GIS Press Release
Wednesday, November 18 – His Excellency the Governor David Pearey will deliver the Speech from the Throne at the first sitting of the third session of the First House of Assembly of the Virgin Islands on Tuesday, November 24.

The Governor told the Department of Information and Public Relations that the Speech from the Throne is, by tradition, the vehicle used by the elected Government to set out its legislative programme for the coming session of the House.

He added, “I am pleased to be updating the House of Assembly and the public of Government’s plans for the Territory.  It is important for all the people of the Virgin Islands to be kept abreast of what is planned.”

The House of Assembly was prorogued on September 30. In a proclamation on November 12, the Governor announced that the House would reconvene at 10 a.m. on November 24.

The Speech from the Throne is prepared by the government on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen in whom the executive authority is vested and who is also part of the legislature.

The last Speech from the Throne was delivered by Governor Pearey on November 13, 2008.
