Female shot in chest hospitalised

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A 40-year-old male Newtown resident is currently in custody assisting police with their investigation into a shooting incident that left a young female warded at the JNF General Hospital.

     

    According to a police report, the shooting incident occurred sometime after 1:00 a.m. yesterday (Mar. 4) at the Herbert Street home of Derrick Williams, where 26-year-old  Samiqua Cannonier was shot to the chest.

     

    Preliminary investigation revealed that Williams, who is a licenced firearm holder, told investigators that his firearm was left on the bed and, after leaving the room, he heard when the weapon was fired. 

     

    Williams further stated that on re-entering the room he found Cannonier with a gunshot wound to her chest and he subsequently transported her to the hospital, where she is warded in a stable condition. 

     

    Personnel from the Forensic Department processed the scene and collected items of evidential value.
     
    As investigations are ongoing, the police are urging anyone with information regarding this matter to contact the Violent Crimes Unit at 467-1887, 467-1888, 662-3468, the nearest police station or the Crime Hotline at 707, where such information could be given anonymously.
