Two killed, one injured in Stapleton shooting incident

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - RESIDENTS of Stapleton Village woke up this morning (Mar. 25) to the sad news that two men from that area were killed during a shooting incident and another had suffered a broken leg.

     

    Dead are 35-year-old Jermaine Henry and Denzil Edwards (34), both of Stapleton Village.

     

    Police, in a release, said that the incident occurred at about 2:00 a.m. and preliminary investigations revealed that while a group of men were playing cards in a yard, a lone gunman bedecked in a hoodie had entered and open fire on them.

     

    As a result, Henry died at the scene and a unit from the Emergency Medical Services had transported Edwards to the JNF General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival,

     

    The release also stated that an unnamed individual had suffered a broken leg in his bid to escape the gunman’s wrath.

     

    The scene was processed by personnel from the Crime Scene Unit who collected items of evidential value.   

     

    As investigations are ongoing, the police are seeking the public’s assistance in the providence of any information that could aid in solving this crime by calling the Stapleton Police Station at 465-2418, the Violent Crimes Unit at 467-1886, 1887 or 1888.

     

    Jermaine Henry and Denzil Edwards’ death have taken to six, the number of homicides committed in the Federation for this year - five on St. Kitts and one on Nevis.

     

    The first was that of 26-year-old Javon Grant of Maddens Estate, Nevis, who was shot multiple time in the vicinity of a bar in Bath Village on Wednesday (Jan. 11). 
     
    The second homicide victim was 29-year-old Dequan Maloney of Morne Heights, Bird Rock, but who was originally from Upper Shaw Avenue, McKnight.
     
    His lifeless body was found within the trunk of a motorcar in the Bird Rock area on Friday (Jan. 27).
     
    The third was that of Sylvester Crossley of McKnight, but who was residing at Halfway Tree when he was shot while in a business establishment in Basseterre on Wednesday (Feb. 1).

     

    The fourth victim was 51-year-old Dahlia Hanley of Lime Kiln, who was killed on the afternoon of Tuesday (Feb. 14) while working as a security guard at the Irish Town Primary School.
