Stabbing-death suspect charged, remanded to prison

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE man, whom police had in custody as a suspect in the stabbing-death of 30-year-old Shanquille Walters of Stapleton Village, was slapped with a murder charge and remanded to prison.

     

    Police, in a statement, gave his name as Skamalj Dickenson of Stapleton Village.

     

    He was formally arrested and charged with the capital offence on Thursday (Apr. 6) and subsequently taken before a District ‘A’ Magistrate who remanded him to His Majesty’s Prison.

     

    Dickens had allegedly committed the offence on Tuesday (Apr. 4) in the Stapleton Village area.

     

    According to a previous police statement, at about 1:55 p.m. on the day in question, they had received a report of a stabbing incident in Stapleton Village, which resulted from an altercation between two men.

     

    The stabbing victim, Walters, was transported in a private vehicle to the Joseph N France General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  
     
    Police also informed that one suspect was in custody assisting them with their investigation.

     

    The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has since condemned “these acts of violence and call upon citizens to assist the police to bring the perpetrators to justice.  

     

    Shanquille Walters’ death had taken to nine, the number of homicides committed in the Federation for the year - eight on St. Kitts and one on Nevis.
