SPBS Easter Breakfast Event: The Great Spring Breakfast Comeback

By: SPBS, Press Release

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS 13 April, 2023 - After a three-year absence, the Sandy Point Benevolent Society’s breakfast fundraiser returned with a bang on Saturday April 8, 2023 at the Church of the Holy Nativity in the Bronx, New York. It was a prelude to better days ahead for the organization and its work in service to community and country.

The breakfast comeback was impressive. After a three-year hiatus, the St. Kitts-Nevis Diaspora community demonstrated its appreciation for the annual Easter breakfast event with a tremendous turnout and a renewed commitment to supporting the work of the organization. Evidence of a gung-ho and renewed spirit filled the hall. A team of young people graced the event with their presence, while a few others excitedly rolled up their sleeves and assisted by serving food to patrons.

From sausages, saltfish cakes, and souse to bacon, bread, and bakes, patrons were treated to a mouthwatering spread that ensured every single person was satisfied and excited for the return of the Easter family tradition. The Conkie, yams, porridge, saltfish, mackerel, dumplings, bush tea, and tea bag variety were definite palate pleasers. There was also evident appreciation for the myriad dishes that were provided for the supportive patrons.

Trevor Bridgewater and his I’lan band provided a pulsating musical vibe and set the tone for an exciting event. Patrons danced, sang and rocked to their mellow and sometimes upbeat sounds. More than the sumptuous menu items and the entertainment, the event also presented the opportunity to reconnect with friends. In a way this comeback event was also a success in reuniting many friends and colleagues who had not been seen prior to the pandemic.

“The success of SPBS’s Easter comeback event is a reminder that hope does spring eternal and we look forward to the continued support of the work we do in service to others. The SPBS is truly grateful for the support it garnered from all its partners who ascribe to our motto, ‘We give back so others can move forward.’ In the post covid era, we envision being even more intentional in the work we do to serve our community and help shape the future of our young people who are the impetus for the work we do,” reported a satisfied President, Stewart Williams.

SPBS wishes to express a hearty thank you to its team members, donors, volunteers and patrons for their support. While the society looks forward to the same strong support at the event next year, it is opportune to remind its supporters and friends of its inaugural Boat Ride on August 5th in New York, and the Dine-with-Dads celebration on Father’s Day in St. Kitts.
