Monday, November 23 – Five primary schools will face off at the third Spanish Bowl Competition this Wednesday at the Catholic Community Centre on Virgin Gorda at 6:00 p.m.
The five competing schools in this year’s Spanish Bowl are Bregado Flax Educational Centre, Robinson O’Neal Memorial, Francis Lettsome, Leonora Delville and Ebenezer Thomas Primary Schools.
Spanish teacher and coordinator of the event Mrs. Grecia Dore told the Department of Information and Public Relations that the competition was developed to help students to put into practice what they have been learning in the classroom. “This competition has been very gratifying and we all are very proud and excited because of the enthusiasm that the competition has generated amongst teachers and students,” Mrs. Dore said.
She added, “The event has grown this year and it is the first time that schools from Tortola are competing. It is my wish that other primary schools become interested and this becomes a Territorial competition.”
The competition consists of three rounds of spelling, translation and general knowledge. The winning school will receive a cash prize and students will receive participation trophies, among other prizes.
The first Spanish Bowl Competition was in 2007. The first two competitions took place between Bregado Flax Educational Centre and Robinson O’Neal Memorial Primary Schools. Robinson O’Neal Memorial School was the champion for both years.
