Basseterre, 8 May 2023 -- Financial Gems of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC), St. Kitts and Nevis, country winners in the inaugural Regional Schools Investment Competition, was recognized at a prize giving ceremony held on 28th April 2023. The team was presented with a plaque and the students, and their teacher-guides received recognition certificates and prizes, commemorating their achievement.
The ceremony, which was held at the CFBC campus, was chaired by Mrs Youlouca Armony-Browne, Business Development Executive, at the Eastern Caribbean Securities Exchange (ECSE), and Dr Moyia Rowtham, President (Ag), CFBC, gave remarks on behalf of the college. The two ECSE member licensed Broker-Dealers in St. Kitts and Nevis, The Bank of Nevis Ltd and the St Kitts Nevis Anguilla National Bank Ltd were represented at the ceremony, by Miss Nikesia Pemberton and Mrs Angelica Lewis, respectively. The Chief Education Officer, Mr Francil Morris, represented the Ministry of Education.
The other schools in St. Kitts and Nevis that participated in the Regional Schools Investment Competition were:
1. 4K Traders - Immaculate Conception Catholic School (ICCS)
2. Storm Brokers - Basseterre High School
3. Innovative Traders - Saddlers Secondary School
4. Authentic Stars - Charles E. Mills Secondary
5. VHS Hawk Investors - Verchilds Secondary School
The country winners, announced in early March, moved on to compete in the regional stage of the competition. The VFCSS Invest of Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School, Saint Lucia were ultimately adjudged the Regional Champions and were recognized at a prize giving ceremony held on 25th April in Saint Lucia.
The competition was created to be a dynamic learning experience for high school and first-year college students and introduces them to investing while providing the opportunity to experience securities market activity. The initiative, which is a collaborative effort of the ECSE, the Eastern Caribbean Securities Regulatory Commission and licensed broker-dealers, aims to stimulate an interest in investing among young persons and to create a pathway for them to become active market participants in the future.
