BASSETERRE ST KITTS, 9 MAY 2023: It is that time of the year when applicants to university are also looking for scholarship opportunities. Afterall, every little help counts when one decides to make an investment in a university education. It is with this knowledge that the Sandy Point Benevolent Society has released its annual scholarship program for undergraduate and post graduate studies.
Considered one of its main missions, the New York-based non-profit Sandy Point Benevolent Society has unveiled its scholarship opportunities for 2023. There are four scholarship categories on offer to potential applicants which cover undergraduate and graduate studies. In its SPBS Undergraduate scholarship, applicants are expected to possess a Grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.00 or be a past SPBS Principal award winner. This scholarship is valued at US$1,000.
Named in honor of its benefactors, the Sir Hugh and Lady Claudette Rawlins Scholarship will reward US$2,000 to the student pursuing graduate studies with a GPA of 3.00 or higher. This graduate student must also be an alumnus of the Sandy Point High School/Charles Mills Secondary School (CEMSS).
President of the SPBS Mr Stewart Williams is encouraging prospective scholarship candidates to complete the application process on line on https://www.spbsinc.org/scholarships/ He added: “this scholarship programme has become the pride and joy of our organization as it truly brings to life our motto we give back so others can move forward. In the same breath I also hasten to thank our sponsors for their generosity throughout the years, who together with the many supporters of our fundraising activities help us to provide these scholarships.”
The other two scholarships available this year are the SPBS Verchilds High School Scholarship and the Ridley Guishard Memorial Scholarship. Applicants for the former must be a graduate of the Verchilds High School pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree. This scholarship is valued at US$2,000 and is sponsored by SPBS.
Qualifying applicants for the Ridley Guishard Memorial Scholarship must be a native Sandy Pointer and graduate of the town’s high school. This scholarship is open to applicants from a challenged socio-economic background who is pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher. Two scholarships valued at US$2500 each are available. This is sponsored by Dr Hannah Guishard.
All applications for the available scholarships must be submitted by Monday 10th July, 2023.
