Grant: PAM will not be intimidated by Denzil Douglas

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, November 24th 2009 (PAM Secretariat) - Leader of the People’s Action Movement, Lindsay Grant has declared that the Prime Minister should be more responsible with his many accusations and irresponsible statements.

He warned that failure of the Prime Minister to take stock of himself could and would result in serious repercussions.

“Prime Minister Douglas wants to instill fear into the people of this Federation but I want him to know that we within the People’s Action Movement do not fall for fear tactics, as we need to warn him that we are not going to threaten anyone. But I trust that he understands what he is doing, as we will not be pushed over by anyone,” Grant declared.

Grant said that he is very disappointed over the statements being peddled by Dr. Douglas as he continues to create political mischief while deliberately being involved in intimidating tactics so as to create an environment of fear.

“What Dr Douglas did in 1993 will never again happen in this country, as he will not ever again be able to create the level of fear and confusion that he did then. So, I hope that he takes note that we are not scared,” Grant warned.

Grant said that while the PM continues with his fear tactics, the Federation continues to wait on him to account for his Government’s corruption which has driven the once striving country into serious debts. He also said that if an audit were to be done today, the PM would certainly find himself in hot water to account for the many properties he owns and how the public’s monies have been spent.

Grant said that while PM Douglas continues to join with Minister Cedrid Liburd in appealing to Eugene Hamilton to give account for policy holders’ monies in British American, he himself fails to give a true account for the millions of dollars that could not be accounted for. “The public knows what occurred with the British American issue, as it was a regional problem that had no relation to Eugene Hamilton. However, come clean and tell the people what have become of the millions of dollars in taxes that they pay every year and cannot be accounted for, as they need to know,” Grant said.

The PAM Leader said that one of the primary contributing factors to the breakdown in law and order has been the way in which the Government operates, noting that decisions and actions are taken based on someone’s political affiliation. He stressed that crime could only be reduced when the PM is properly investigated and made to account for the many properties he bought, the numerous questionable deals in which he is involved, along with his candidate Marcella Liburd giving account for monies that were entrusted to her by her late brother for his children.

“Dr Douglas continues to talk about crime and violence, but yet he issues threat while trying to drive fear into the public. How can he be a man to be trusted if he has abused and refused to give account for the public monies, while Marcella Liburd refuses to come clean with the issue of her brother’s children monies,” he asked.

Additionally, Grant said that he wants to know why PM Douglas wants to hide and what his desperate attempt at remaining in office is. He expressed the view that the Federation would only see improvements when a responsible government is elected and given the mandate to serve the people and not themselves.

Grant added that he remains very disturbed and concerned by the statements the PM made, when he said that should Eugene Hamilton be elected there would be a revolution.

“What is he trying to do, scare voters from electing Eugene Hamilton? Well I hope that common sense would prevail as the People’s Action Movement will not allow Denzil Douglas and the Labour Party to create the havoc that they did in 1993…I can assure him of that,” Grant concluded.
