…one staff member shot
CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - CRIMINAL activities continue in the Federation as another business establishment was robbed last evening (May 13).
Police reported that they are probing an armed robbery at Mem’s Pizzeria in Nevis that occurred around 11:00 p.m. yesterday after the business establishment was about to close for the day.
Lawmen said reports indicate that one of the proprietors, Jamilla Wallace of Cherry Garden, was approached by two armed assailants while she was in her vehicle that was parked in the business’ yard.
Police further reported that the robbers demanded money and proceeded to steal her bag and phone.
Upon realising there was a robbery in progress, staff members closed the business’ entrance door and the robbers then proceeded to fire several shots at the building, wounding staff member Maria Merchant of Stoney Grove.
Police noted that Merchant is currently warded at the Alexandra Hospital and is in stable condition.
The Commissioner of Police, James Sutton, has recently been speaking to the issue of crime and violence that is apparently on the rise in the Federation.
