BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A 15-year-old male is the Federation’s latest road fatality after the vehicle in which he was a passenger colided with a house in the Halfway Tree area last evening (May 19).

Police have given his name as Lashley Weekes of Saddlers Village.

Police, in a press release, stated that the accident occurred around 8:15p.m. on the day in question and preliminary investigations revealed that motor truck PA-2893, owned and driven by Morgan Wyatt of The Alley, Sandy Point, ran off the Island Main road and collided with a house on the southern side of the road.

The house is owned by Desmond Morton.

Wyatt, according to the press release, was travelling in the direction of Sandy Point with three passengers - Weekes, who was seated in the passenger’s side of the truck; Tijay Matthew and another individual whose name was given only as ‘Stachie’, both of whom are from Saddlers Village, were in the truck’s bed.

Wyatt reportedly overtook two parked vehicles and rapidly swerved back to the southern lane of the road to avoid oncoming traffic, which resulted in the truck veering off the road and colliding with Morton’s house.

On impact with the house, Matthew and ‘Stachie’ fell off the truck while Weekes was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers and a unit from the Emergency Medical Services had responded to the scene from where Wyatt, Matthew and ‘Stachie’ were transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital for treatment of their minor injuries.

Investigations into this accident are ongoing.
