Chopping incident leaves three teens hospitalized

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - AN investigation is underway by the police on Nevis to determine the circumstances that led to the hospitalization of three teens following a chopping incident.

Police in a press release stated that on Friday morning (June 2) an altercation ensued among 18-year-old Zhamar Tyson of Morning Star, Kalos Richards, and two other male juveniles, aged 14 and 16.

That incident, according to the police, occurred outside the home of Richards, where a cutlass was used to inflict a laceration to Tyson’s right arm and lacerations to the two juveniles’ hands, arms and head.

They were taken to the Alexandra Hospital for treatment where they are currently warded in stable condition.

This incident comes against the backdrop of Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Dr. Terrance Drew calling for the people of St. Kitts and Nevis to do what is right to minimize crime and violence.

“At the same time, here in St. Kitts and Nevis, we call for people to do what is right and to refrain from negative activities,” Dr. Drew said while speaking with reporters recently.

He charged that “the Government will do what it has to do” in order to keep the Federation safe.

In recent times, a number of individuals in St. Kitts and Nevis had resorted to violence to settle their grievances, ringing alarm bells in the Federation as  homicides are on the rise.
