Cameroonians on hunger strike; to be released tomorrow

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - JUST about three months after the 14 Cameroonians were brought to shore in St. Kitts and Nevis, they are to be released and integrated into society.

The disclosure came this evening (June 10) on a regional programme where the Public Relations Officer of the St. Peter’s Management Team explained that the 14 individuals received their United Nations-issued identification cards earlier today, paving the way for them to be integrated into society.

They will be relocated to the Bird Rock area where accommodation will be provided by the Government for several months.

During an appearance on the Phoenix Free Press, the PRO confirmed that several of the migrants were on a hunger strike, substantiating media reports that they were unhappy with the conditions under which they were housed and the tight security preventing them from leaving the location.

“They have not left already. They are going to go to Bird Rock tomorrow where they will be placed in a house that is going to be paid for by government. But they are free to go wherever they want,” the PRO stated.

The Cameroonians, according to the Police Force, took the decision to stop eating and start protesting yesterday afternoon (Jun.9) until they get the following demands met:

    1. They are demanding to be issued with a United Nations identification card.

    2. They are demanding to speak with the United States Embassy and the United States Congress.

    3. They are demanding to be sent to their Cameroonian friends and family in Texas, United States, as they claim they are specially protected under US law.

Claims were debunked by the PRO that the migrants were not provided a psychologist.

No official word has been released by the Government on the matter; however, SKNVibes News understands that the Minister of National Security and the top brass of the Police Force were locked in a meeting late this afternoon.
