Sugar Boyz in Gold Cup action tonight

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

Fort Lauderdale, USA - THE Sugar Boyz are prepped and ready to swing into action tonight (June 16) at the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup, where their aim is to create history by rallying to the end.

Team St. Kitts and Nevis have been preparing for the tournament for more than two weeks and will go up against against a determined Curacao unit, which comprises professional players, at the DPK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States.

The Sugar Boyz are playing in the preliminary round, or the qualifiers, for the major tournament and would need to win two matches to make the full tournament, where they will go up against the top nations in the CONCACAF region, such as Mexico, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, United States and Canada.

Austin Huggins, the National Coach of St. Kitts-Nevis, lamented that he is concerned that the players would need to get accustomed to playing in large stadiums in front of packed stands; a situation that many within the Sugar Boyz camp, especially the local players, have never had to cope with in their push to make the Gold Cup.

“One of my major concerns would be the capacity inside the stadium. The amount of people that will be here, we are not exposed to that kind of environment,” the coach confessed to reporters at a press conference last evening.

Huggins said the team’s preparation went well and the players are enthused about hitting the field and performing credibly.

“Today (yesterday) we finished our last effort in getting our team ready for the match tomorrow (this evening). We are in good shape and we are rearing and ready to go!,” Huggins disclosed.

Should team St. Kitts-Nevis get pass Curacao, they will play either French Guiana or Sint Martin in the final qualifying round slated for Tuesday (June 20).

The first kick gets underway at 9:00 p.m.
