BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - AFTER more than 12 years it has come to light that popular musician Samuel ‘Santoy’ Barrette was exonerated of the gun possession charge laid against him following a 2009 arrest.
As SKNVibes News reported at the time, police, in a stop and search operation, had searched Barrette’s vehicle and allegedly found a firearm, which led to his arrest and subsequent charge.
He was later sentenced to three years imprisonment. But it was recently brought to light by his attorney, Terence V. Byron, that he was cleared of all charges in 2011.
According to official documents seen by SKNVibes News, the musician successfully appealed his case.
The Certificate of Result of Appeal confirmed that the “Appeal Allowed Conviction and Sentence quashed. Trial is nullity.”
The appeal was heard on March 15, 2011 before Justice Hon. Hugh A. Rawlins, President Ola Mae Edwards and Her Ladyship Janice Pereira, J. A, according to the Certificate of Result of Appeal
Barrette was represented by Terance Byron and Dr. Henry Browne K.C with Pauline Hendrickson for the respondent.
