Rawlins villager shot in arm

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - POLICE on Nevis are investigating an incident that left one man nursing a gunshot injury to his left arms.

Police have given the injured man’s name as Terito Browne of Rawlins Village, Gingerland and stated that the incident occurred between 10:30 and 11:30 p.m. on Sunday (June 18).

A press release from the Force informed that Browne reported to police that upon arrival at his home he was accosted by masked and armed assailants, who attempted to shoot him. However, owing to the apparent malfunctioning of one of the assailant’s firearm, he was able to escape with his life.

The release also stated that while running after the assailants had fired a number of shots in his direction, Browne sustained a gunshot wound to his left arm and is currently receiving medical treatment at the Alexandra Hospital.

The Crime Scene Unit had processed the scene and collected a number of items of evidential value.

Investigations into this matter are ongoing.

In recent weeks, the Federation has recorded an upsurge in the number of gun violence, including homicides.

For this year, there have been 16 murders, which surpassed those recorded in 2021 and 2022, while there have also been a number of robberies and illegal entries into homes.

The crime situation had prompted the Government and the Police Force to institute a number of initiatives that will see officers' vacation withdrawn with the aim of having more patrols across the Federation.

That initiative will go along with efforts by the Government to increase the penalties for those persons found with illegal firearms.
