Parliamentary rep, Dr. Martin, takes students to Beaumont Park

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, November 26th 2009 (Labour Secretariat) - On Wednesday morning (25.Nov.) The St.Kitts/Nevis Labour Party Parliamentary Representative for Constituency #1, Dr. Earl Asim Martin, invited the grade six class of the Tucker Clarke Primary School for a field trip at the multi-million Beaumont Park, located in Dieppe Bay, St.Kitts.
     
    The outing came as part of the week of activities in celebration of Martin’s 16th year as a parliamentarian for the area. It is being held under the theme “progress leadership for a progressive constituency.” Dr. Martin is the minister with repsonsibility for  Public Works, Utlities, Transport and Post.
     
    The tour served as an educational Social Studies outing .The accompanied teachers, students and other invited guests were treated to lunch prepared by Marshall's .
     
    Reportedly, the Beaumont Park (Horse, Greyhound  Racing and Theme Park) which is soon to be completed will hold a pre-open horse racing, come Dec.3.
     
    Minister Martin told the students that it is important that they know about the developments that are taking place in their country. He told the students that the economy of the Federation is based on tourism and that the Beaumont Park is one of such projects that will help to boost the economic activity here.
     
    He was pleased that the students were “quite interactive” as they asked many questions.
     
    The parliamentary rep for Constituency #1 remarked: “I would imagine that this activity would become part of the social studies activity. As we move into the service industry, it is very important and critical that our young people, the students, at primary level get involved important aspect of the development of our country and begin to appreciate the importance of it.
     
    Dr. Martin continued: “They (the students) can use an opportunity like this to see how they themselves can become more actively involved  with our tourism product and challenge their minds  to see where  they would like to apply to themselves in the future as we move  ahead in the service oriented sector.”
     
    Speaking to the chief operating officer, Christopher Evelyn, he highlighted that the management team welcomes such outings in an effort to educate people on the island on what the track is about.
     
    “A lot of people when they come here they don’t know what is happening. We’ve been bringing a lot of people here and showing them what is taking place at the facility. We want to show them that we are serious about what we are doing and allow them to see the caliber of the project that is been constructed,” stated Evelyn.
     
    A few students shared their thoughts on the educational outing.
     
    Zuleika Wattley said “It was fun. Horse racing is a fun sport. I rode a horse before and it was good.”
     
    Tonicia Manners said “it was fun and adventurous. I like the different types of horses.”
     
    “I leant a lot about the horse said Aljana Bridgewater, while Amboki Edgings with despite having a fun-filled packed day said “I thought we were going to get a chance to ride the  horses. I wish we could have done that.
     
    “It was good. I learnt a lot about the horses like how tall they are and how to feed them. I also learnt that when people make noise they horse like to follow(suite),” stated Shakeem Richardson
     
    Earlier that morning Minister Martin donated a refrigerator to the Beach Allen Primary School.
     
    The week of activities kicked off on Sunday morning with a church service at the Christian Life Assembly and a fun day later that day. On Monday, a community beautification and a canvassing/community walk through the day after. Today, senior citizen appreciation dinner will be held.
     
    Tomorrow (Friday) a fundraiser luncheon will be held in front of the Shoreline Plaza (Bay Road, Bassterre) On Saturday, a health walk and social evening at the constituency office.
     
    The week of activities will climax on Sunday afternoon with a  street naming ceremony at Taylor’s Village and the opening of a kiddies park at the Newtown playing Field (3:30 p.m).
