BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A male resident of Main Street, St. Paul’s was arrested by ranks of the St. Kitts and Nevis Customs and Excise Department and slapped with three charges for offences allegedly committed at the Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw International Airport on Friday (June 23).
Police, in a media statement, have given the man’s name as Bernard Esdaille, who was charged with the offences of False Declaration, Concealment of Restricted Goods to wit Cannabis, and Importation of Restricted Goods to wit Cannabis.
In a previous media statement, police said that on the day in question, the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force was informed that an attempt to smuggle contraband into the Federation was thwarted.
It stated that preliminary reports indicated while conducting a routine check of imported cargo, officers of the St. Kitts and Nevis Customs and Excise Department found 37 small packages containing vegetable material suspected of being
cannabis inside three milkshake containers addressed to Mr. Esdaille.
The first container had 11 packages, the second one had 12, and the third container had 14.
The contraband was taken into police custody and a subsequent forensic analysis confirmed the vegetable material to be Cannabis Sativa, popularly known as Ganja..
