BASSETERRE ST KITTS, JULY 3, 2023: The Sandy Point Benevolent Society is out of the blocks early with information regarding its major fundraiser to be held in St. Kitts & Nevis at the end of this year. The selected theme for the event is: “Preserving and securing the future for the next generation.”
The nonprofit organization has named Mr. William Vincent A Hodge as the Patron of its Banquet which will be held on 26th December at the St Kitts Marriott. The eminent Educator emerged winner from a slate of renowned nominees following a voting process. Mr. Hodge has served the SPBS as President, Vice President and General Secretary. It was during his tenure as President that the inaugural Awards Banquet was held. The decision to expand the SPBS Principal’s Award to include the feeder primary schools from Newton Ground, St Paul’s and Dieppe Bay was also made during his presidency and today the top student from those schools receive US$300 towards their high school education. The 2023 SPBS Patron has decades of dedicated service to education as a teacher and an administrator impacting lives in St. Kitts and Nevis, the BVI and the USA. He recently retired as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education.
Meanwhile, the Featured Speaker for the marquis event is Senator, Hon Dr Joyelle Clarke. As climate action advocate and gender- justice specialist, she leads the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Environment, Climate Action and Constituency Empowerment. Senator Clarke has made significant contributions in community-based projects that have addressed reforestation and school-based agriculture programmes. Working closely with female cooperatives, she has helped them to transition from traditional farming to climate-resilient farming methods. A former student of the Sandy Point High School/CEMSS, she has had an upfront view of some of the work that the SPBS has undertaken at the school over the last several years.
