Decomposed body found in Monkey Hill

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE decomposed body of a male Upper Monkey Hill resident was discovered on Ciston Hill in St. Peters on Wednesday, November 25.

Reports reaching SKNVibes state that the body of 32-year-old Joseph Browne of Upper Monkey Hill, St. Peters was found in a decomposed state on Ciston Hill within a galvanised shed.

Speaking with Corporal Carl Greaux of the Criminal Investigation Department, he told this media house that a concerned citizen reported to the Stapleton Police Station on Sunday (Nov. 22) that Browne was missing.

He also stated that further reports were made to that police station by a number of Monkey Hill residents that they were affected by strong foul stench in the air.

Greaux said he was on duty at the time and he led a squad of officers from the Stapleton Police Station to investigate the report.

“On Wednesday, November 25, 2009, I was on duty when a report was made at Stapleton Police Station that the residents were affected by a foul scent in the area where they live. Armed with my flashlight, we went up to Ciston Hill close to dust to locate from where and what was causing the foul smell, and after some 30 minutes we saw a galvanised shed.

“We approached the shed and saw a window on the northern side was open. Using my flashlight, I shone it through the window and saw a decomposed male body partly covered by maggots. We immediately summoned the District Medical Officer, Dr. Reginald O'Loughlin, who pronounced the person dead. The body was later identified by Derrick Bass as that of Joseph Browne of Upper Monkey Hill,” Greaux said.

He also informed that no foul play was suspected and a post mortem was conducted on the following day, but was hindered due to the state of decomposition.

The body of Joseph Browne was handed over to family members and his burial took place on Thursday.
