BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE acronym TEAM, “Together Everyone Accomplishes More”, will be perpetuated in the lives of employees at the Harowe Servo Controls Ltd. (St. Kitts) after the manufacturing company celebrated 35 years of high quality through team work, last week.

The factory recognised the entire week as a time for celebration and on Thursday (Nov. 26) all of the employees were treated to a luncheon at the popular seafood restaurant, Sprat Net. The plant was closed for the afternoon and the event gave employees and management the opportunity to be relaxed and to socialise.

Speaking to SKNVibes, Plant Manager for the company Carol Evelyn said the factory, from time to time, faces competition and shocks resulting from an uncertain economy. He added however that his management and staff have been committed to keeping the company thriving.

“Like any company, we have our problems, but I must say that we have always worked out our issues in order to move the company forward. We have a very dedicated group of employees and I’m very pleased with their support that we have been given over the years,” Evelyn noted.

He added that Harowe Servo Controls Ltd. (St. Kitts) has developed significantly over the last 35 years and indicated that expansion of the company’s physical facility and services offered is within sight.

Motivational speaker, renowned educator and neighbour to the plant Gloria Mills gave a riveting presentation to the employees, highlighting the theme ‘Helping to build’. Congratulations were extended for the milestone that has been reached and Mills outlined five simple steps that would ensure =the company sees another 35-year achievement.

“When you’re helping to build you don’t stay one place. You must identify your purpose and will direction and you will know where you’re going. Without a purpose every calling in life can become monotonous, but when we are building we see change.

“Apply your knowledge and talents and interests and find where you fit. All of us don’t have the same knowledge and all of us don’t have the same skills, look for what you could do!” Mills repeated.

The third step was to work with the team, which complemented the fourth: prepare to cope with challenges and changes. Employees were urged to build on the work of others and “never let a crisis pass in vain”, but rather take the opportunity to learn.

“It had to be that the people that went before did something right and then those who came after continued in that same culture of doing something right. Thirty-five years is not a mean achievement. Hard times came and you were able to withstand the challenges and stand up for 35 years; that is worth much. Work with the team, be understanding; no man can do it alone,” Mills said.

She concluded with a short but equally important point of encouraging the staff to aim for success.

The afternoon ended in a spirit of camaraderie as employees dined in celebration of the company’s achievement.
