BASSETERRE ST KITTS, 31 JULY, 2023 -- The Sandy Point Benevolent Society has responded positively to an invitation to partner with the organisers of the Crime Intervention Summer Soccer Camp. The Camp, which started earlier in July has as its theme “Creating an atmosphere of growth and development to achieve excellence”.
Responding to a request to provide Tshirts for the participants, the SPBS was able to mobilize funds to print over 100 Tshirts, thanks to the contribution of one its members, Mrs Tessa Dennehy. At a handing over ceremony on Saturday 22 July, Dr Duriel Pemberton did the honors on behalf of the St Kitts Chapter of the SPBS, presenting the Tshirts to the camp organisers. Accepting the Tshirts on behalf of the camp, Event Coordinator, Inspector John Bergan, reported that the number of campers is growing daily with up to 168 participants at the time of the presentation.
“We are doing everything to accommodate everyone who shows up including the young ones who are accompanying their older siblings,” remarked Inspector John Bergan. “We are very grateful for the support that we have received from the SPBS. Without your sponsorship support it would have been impossible to execute this life-transforming camp,” he concluded.
President of the St Kitts Chapter of SPBS, Ms Shermin Stevens added: “Although it was short notice, we felt compelled to assist in this noble cause given the current challenges with our young men. Our plan is to evaluate our contribution this year with the view that next year we may be in a better position to assist in an even more meaningful way. We wish the organisers and the participants much success and trust that all of the objectives will be fully met.”
The camp which is being held at the Flow Sports and Social Club grounds, has as its main objective to prepare and identify local sports talent targeted for career and academic development. International coaches are part of the team assisting with this effort.
