By: (SKNIS), Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 01, 2023 (SKNIS): To improve employee well-being and work-life balance, the Attorney-General’s Office and the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs hosted the first-ever staff retreat on Tuesday, August 01 at the Cuna Conference Centre.

The retreat was hosted under the theme “To Foster Personal Growth and Professional Development to Enhance Delivery of Service.” Its purpose was to improve coworker/staff relations, enhance communications within offices/teams and improve productivity within the ministry to better serve internal and external customers.

Attorney-General (AG) and Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs, the Honourable Garth Wilkin noted that the August 01 retreat was extremely important as it focused heavily on teamwork.

“Teamwork is necessary for the proper functioning of any office. Therefore, reinforcing the core concepts of teamwork by way of team building/leadership exercises is critical to the proper functioning of the Attorney General’s Office and the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs,” said AG Wilkin.  “I am extremely pleased with the turnout from the various Departments, including Clerks, Executive Officers, Bailiffs, Directors, Registrars, Assistant Secretaries and Magistrates. We are having an informative yet fun-filled session focusing on personal and professional development, that will benefit all participants and ultimately the general public we serve. This is our first such session and it certainly won’t be the last.”

Staff engaged in two developmental sessions, with the first conducted by Curtis Martin. Topics included customer service techniques; time management; conflict resolution; money management; team building exercises – leadership skills; communication skills; interpersonal relationship techniques, and emotional intelligence.

Madame Justice (Retired) Pearletta Lanns conducted the second developmental session. Work-life balance; occupational stress; counseling services; ethics and the law; mastering conflict of interest issues and professional conduct – work and personal life were among the topics discussed.
