CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - AT least five persons were reportedly rushed to the Alexandra Hospital today (Aug. 7) following a mishap during Culturama J’ouvert parade when a tractor with trailer in tow ran off the road.
Video footage of the incident posted on social media indicated that the tractor was coming off a hill in Long Point in the vicinity of Valu Mart when it ran off the road, with a number of people jumping off the trailer before it came to a halt in a ditch.
Officials from Culturama explained that they were coming from the Long Point area heading down the incline when the trailer, which was excessive in weight, caused the tractor to be out of control.
In his bid to escape injury, the operator of the tractor lept from the vehicle before it hit a nearby pole.
However, despite that incident, the activity continued until midday when it was scheduled to end.
