BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - INVESTIGATORS of the Police Force and the Fire and Rescue Service are probing the cause of an early morning fire in Wades Garden that claimed the life of a female senior citizen.
According to police, dead is 91-year-old Devorita Weekes who perished in the blaze that started around 3:00 a.m. today (Aug. 21).
In a short statement to reporters, police said the Fire and Rescue Services and ranks of the Police Force responded to the report of a fire “and met a dwelling house engulfed in flames”.
When the fire was eventually extinguished by the Fire Services, the charred remains of Weekes were found in the living room.
She was pronounced dead by the District Medical Doctor and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
